BMW is about to deliver on one of the most anticipated product launches in its recent history. The 2027 iX3 — the first production model from the company’s next-generation Neue Klasse platform — will begin reaching US customers on September 25, 2026, starting at $61,500.

A Clean Break From the Past

The iX3 is not an update to an existing model. It is built from the ground up on BMW’s new architecture, using sixth-generation eDrive technology, a new battery cell format, and an entirely rethought interior experience. The result is a vehicle that processes drivetrain, braking, and steering inputs ten times faster than previous BMW systems, and features a Panoramic iDrive layout powered by the new BMW Operating System X.

The 2027 iX3 50 xDrive is offered in Sport, M Sport, and M Sport Professional trims, priced at $61,500, $64,000, and $65,500 respectively, all before a $1,350 destination and handling fee. A more affordable mid-tier variant — the iX3 40 xDrive — is expected to arrive in early 2027 at under $55,000.

Performance and Range

The iX3 50 xDrive uses dual electric motors producing 463 horsepower and 476 lb-ft of torque, with a 0-60 mph time of 4.7 seconds. BMW fits a 112.2-kWh battery pack operating at 698.9 volts, delivering an EPA-estimated range of up to 411 miles on 20-inch summer tires, with a maximum of 434 miles under ideal conditions.

Charging is where the iX3 stands out most clearly from competitors in its price range. The 800-volt architecture allows up to 400 kW of DC fast charging, and BMW says the battery can go from 10% to 80% in approximately 21 minutes, or gain up to 175 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

A New Interior Language

The cabin is as significant a departure as the powertrain. Every iX3 features a 17.9-inch central touchscreen, a Panoramic Vision 3D Head-Up Display that spans the base of the windshield, and BMW’s new operating system. The overall design introduces the Neue Klasse interior language that will eventually roll out across the entire BMW lineup.

The head-up display alone spans approximately 43 inches across the base of the windshield — a dimension that has no equivalent in any current production BMW.

Strong Early Demand

BMW opened US reservations in May 2026 with a $1,000 deposit and the response has been notable. Since the model’s fall 2025 debut, roughly one-third of all newly ordered fully electric BMWs worldwide have been iX3s, prompting the automaker to accelerate production at its factory in Debrecen, Hungary by adding an additional shift earlier than originally planned.

What This Means for Buyers

The iX3 enters a competitive segment — it faces the Tesla Model Y, Volvo EX60, Audi Q6 e-tron, and Mercedes-Benz GLC EQ — but it does so with a range, charging speed, and technology package that is difficult to match at its price point. For buyers considering a premium electric SUV in the $60,000–$70,000 range, it now belongs firmly on the shortlist. Deliveries begin September 25 at BMW dealerships across the United States.
