Maserati has unveiled the refreshed 2027 Grecale, bringing styling updates, a new base engine, and improved electric range to its midsize luxury SUV. The changes mark one of the most complete updates the model has received since its debut.
A New Entry Point for the Lineup
The biggest mechanical change is the arrival of a new entry-level Grecale, positioned below the Modena trim. Both versions now share a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 producing around 385 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, replacing the smaller 2.0-liter engine that previously sat at the bottom of the range. This V6 uses Maserati’s Nettuno engine architecture, which borrows pre-chamber combustion technology originally developed for Formula 1.
At the top of the lineup, the Grecale Trofeo remains the performance flagship. It uses a more powerful tune of the same V6, producing in the range of 523 to 530 horsepower, depending on market specification, and can reach 0 to 100 km/h in under four seconds.
More Range for the Electric Folgore
The fully electric Grecale Folgore also receives meaningful updates. According to Maserati, aerodynamic refinements, including a new front fascia, an active grille shutter system, and revised underbody airflow, have increased the EV’s usable range. Official figures vary slightly by region: Maserati’s own homologation under WLTP standards points to up to 590 km, while U.S. estimates under EPA testing suggest around 272 to 274 miles, depending on wheel size.
The Folgore continues to use a 105-kWh battery pack with a 400-volt electrical architecture, delivering a combined output of roughly 542 to 550 horsepower from its dual-motor setup. A new AWD Disconnect system can switch between all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive in a fraction of a second, reducing energy losses when full traction isn’t needed.
Design and Cabin Updates
Visually, the 2027 Grecale adopts a horizontal “shark nose” front end inspired by Maserati’s MCPura and MCXtrema supercars. Inside, the steering wheel has been redesigned with an octagonal-inspired shape, and the digital clock now features a new octagonal display with a metal ring, replacing the previous circular design.
What This Means for Buyers
For combustion fans, the new base V6 gives access to a more powerful and more characterful engine without requiring the jump to the pricier Modena trim. For electric buyers, the Folgore’s range improvement helps close the gap with rivals, although it still falls short of some competitors, such as the BMW iX3, which offers a notably longer range from a similarly sized battery.
Pricing for the new base Grecale has not been officially confirmed yet. Based on early reports, it is expected to sit below the current Modena’s starting price. The 2027 lineup is expected to begin reaching dealerships in North America between late summer and early autumn, with final pricing details to follow closer to launch.
The Bigger Picture
The update shows that even as Maserati continues investing in electrification, it isn’t abandoning combustion engines for buyers who still want that experience. By expanding the V6 range while also refining the Folgore, the brand is betting that offering more choices, rather than pushing a single path, is the smarter strategy in today’s luxury SUV market.
