Hero MotoCorp has officially discontinued the Mavrick 440, its most premium motorcycle in India. Launched earlier in 2024, the bike was based on the Harley-Davidson X440, which is also made by Hero in India. Despite being well-reviewed by riders, the Mavrick 440 failed to generate enough interest in the market.

Why Was the Mavrick 440 Discontinued?

The key reason behind this decision is poor sales performance. Over the past few months, the Mavrick 440 recorded little to no sales, raising serious concerns for Hero. Even though it hasn’t been removed from the official website yet, many dealerships have already stopped taking new bookings.

This sudden drop in demand likely pushed the company to discontinue the model just 18 months after its launch.

What Made the Mavrick 440 Special?

When it was launched, the Mavrick 440 was priced at ₹1.99 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the most premium model Hero had ever offered. It was designed as a naked street bike, sharing its base with the Harley-Davidson X440.

Under the hood, the bike had a 440cc single-cylinder engine, paired with a 6-speed gearbox using an assist and slipper clutch. It delivered a maximum output of 27 bhp at 6000 rpm and 36 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm, giving it strong mid-range performance ideal for city and highway rides.

What This Means for Hero and Harley

With the Mavrick 440 out of the picture, Harley-Davidson X440—which shares many parts and engineering with the Mavrick—now has a clearer path to dominate the mid-range segment. The Harley brand name, combined with Hero’s manufacturing, might help attract more buyers and increase sales.

Final Thoughts

The discontinuation of the Hero Mavrick 440 may seem abrupt, but it reflects the harsh realities of the motorcycle market in India. Even with strong specs and solid design, a bike must meet market expectations to survive. Hero’s decision hints at a shift in focus—possibly toward supporting the Harley-Davidson X440 more aggressively. For now, the chapter on Hero’s most premium motorcycle has come to a quiet close.
