It has been nearly three years since Land Rover first opened a waiting list for its electric Range Rover, and more than 61,000 people joined it. Today, September 2, 2026, the wait is officially over. JLR has opened order books for the Range Rover Electric worldwide, confirming pricing, specifications, and a delivery timeline that starts in 2027. It is the first fully electric vehicle ever produced under the Range Rover name — and one of the most expensive electric SUVs on sale anywhere in the world.

The Numbers That Define It
The Range Rover Electric uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system with two permanent-magnet electric motors, each rated at 260 kW. Combined output reaches 550 PS — equivalent to 542 horsepower — and 850 Nm of torque, giving the large luxury SUV considerably more immediate response than any combustion-powered Range Rover. JLR says the electric model matches the performance of the V8-powered version while delivering a quieter, more refined character. The 0-62 mph sprint takes 4.3 seconds.
The 118.5 kWh battery delivers a WLTP range of up to 372 miles. JLR claims a real-world range of 333 miles under typical driving conditions — a meaningful figure for a vehicle that weighs approximately 2,885 kg. When connected to a 350 kW rapid DC charger, the Range Rover Electric charges from 10% to 80% in around 22 minutes, or adds 136 miles of range in 10 minutes under WLTP conditions.
What It Costs — and What You Get
JLR opened orders for the Range Rover Electric on Wednesday, starting at $140,450 for the base SE trim. In the UK, pricing starts at £154,070 — approximately £47,000 more than the equivalent entry-level combustion Range Rover, which begins at £107,530. That premium reflects the battery system, the in-house developed electric powertrain, and the engineering required to maintain Range Rover’s off-road and luxury credentials in a fully electric format.
The Range Rover Electric is offered in four trim levels: Autobiography, SV, SV Black, and SV Ultra, plus a limited-series First Edition model. With a 4% benefit-in-kind tax rate for the 2026/27 tax year, upper rate taxpayers will pay around £260 per month for company car tax. The SV and SV Ultra variants — positioned at the top of the range — are expected to push well past $200,000 in the US market once configured.
Existing derivatives of the Range Rover, including petrol, diesel mild-hybrid, and plug-in hybrid versions, continue to be offered alongside the new electric model. Buyers can choose their powertrain without leaving the Range Rover brand.
Built in Britain, Developed Entirely In-House
Built alongside petrol, diesel mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid Range Rovers at JLR’s Solihull plant, Range Rover Electric marks one of the most significant steps yet in the electrification of the British luxury carmaker. The Solihull facility is the first JLR plant to produce a fully electric vehicle — JLR’s previous EV, the Jaguar I-Pace, had its production outsourced to Magna Steyr in Austria.
The electric powertrain was developed entirely in-house by JLR’s engineering team. That decision — rather than licensing or adapting a third-party EV platform — reflects JLR’s ambition to own its electric vehicle technology rather than depend on a supplier’s roadmap. The Range Rover Electric has covered over 1.5 million kilometres of testing, spanning virtual simulations and real-world conditions from sub-zero arctic temperatures to scorching desert heat.
Off-Road Capability: No Compromise Promised
The most important claim JLR has made about the Range Rover Electric is one that skeptics will scrutinize closely: that it loses nothing in off-road capability compared to its combustion stablemates.
Land Rover has built its brand identity around genuine off-road performance, and the Range Rover is the flagship expression of that. The electric version’s greater low-speed torque — delivered instantly from the electric motors with no need for a combustion engine to build revs — is theoretically an advantage in crawling terrain conditions. JLR has retained the wading depth, air suspension, and terrain management systems of the combustion model.
The battery’s transverse positioning within the vehicle’s structure was designed to maintain the same approach, departure, and breakover angles as the combustion Range Rover. That architectural detail required significant engineering effort and is one of the reasons the Range Rover Electric’s development timeline stretched considerably beyond early estimates.
A $140,000 EV in a Skeptical Market
The Range Rover Electric arrives in a market that has cooled significantly on electric vehicles over the past twelve months. US EV sales have fallen for six consecutive months compared with year-ago levels, and hybrid vehicles now outsell EVs across most segments. The expiration of the $7,500 federal EV tax credit continues to weigh on the broader market.
But the Range Rover Electric is not targeting the buyers that incentive was designed to help. Its audience — existing Range Rover owners, ultra-high-net-worth individuals shopping at the top of the luxury SUV market, and buyers considering Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Bentley Bentayga, or Lamborghini Urus — is largely insulated from fuel cost concerns and tax credit math.
The Range Rover Electric is not competing with the Tesla Model X or the Rivian R1S. It is competing with itself — with the V8 Range Rover that its existing customers currently drive — and the question it must answer is whether those buyers are ready to go electric.
What This Means for the Brand
The Range Rover Electric marks one of the most significant steps yet in the electrification of the British luxury carmaker. First customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2027. The Range Rover Sport Electric will follow shortly after, extending JLR’s EV offering into the brand’s best-selling model.
