Renault’s New Electric Kwid Set to Spark the Indian EV Market

Renault is all set to electrify the small-car segment with the upcoming electric Kwid, expected to launch in India soon. After debuting the model in Brazil as the Kwid E-Tech, the company is now turning its attention to one of its biggest potential EV markets — India. The compact hatchback is based on the Dacia Spring EV platform and is designed to offer affordable electric mobility for city users. Once launched, it will take on rivals like the Tata Tiago EV and Citroen e-C3.

A Compact EV That Looks the Part

At first glance, the electric Kwid doesn’t try too hard to look futuristic — and that’s exactly what makes it appealing. It keeps the Kwid’s familiar stance but adds just enough new details to stand out. The front has a solid, closed grille and sleek projector lamps that give it a smart, urban vibe.

From the side, you’ll spot contrasting black wheel cladding, integrated turn indicators on the mirrors, and stylish 14-inch dual-tone alloys. The back gets Y-shaped LED DRLs and a neat bumper design, rounding off a look that’s both practical and modern.

Upgraded Cabin and Features

Inside, the electric Kwid feels more grown-up than ever. Renault has completely refreshed the cabin with a cleaner design and better materials. There’s a 10.1-inch touchscreen system that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with a 7-inch digital driver display.

You also get USB-C ports, a height-adjustable steering wheel, and better overall ergonomics than before. The focus here is clear — give city drivers an easy, connected, and comfortable EV experience without overcomplicating things.

Safety That Inspires Confidence

Despite being a compact car, Renault hasn’t cut corners on safety. The electric Kwid comes loaded with six airbags, ABS, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, and a rear-view camera. It even includes tyre pressure monitoring and ISOFIX mounts for child seats — features that are still rare in small electric cars.

Range and Performance

Powering the car is a 26.8 kWh lithium-ion battery, good for about 250 km on a full charge. The electric motor produces close to 65 horsepower, making it perfect for city commutes and occasional highway drives. With zero tailpipe emissions and low running costs, it’s a solid step toward affordable green mobility.

Final Thoughts

The Renault Kwid EV isn’t trying to be flashy — it’s designed to be practical, smart, and within reach of everyday buyers. Its balance of style, efficiency, and affordability could make it one of the most approachable EVs in India once it launches.

If Renault nails the pricing, this little electric hatchback might just do what the original Kwid did years ago — bring something fresh and exciting to Indian roads.
